We thought we would take this opportunity to write a small blog post at the same time, it’s been a minute.
Our passion at Complement Recruitment is to find the best fit, candidate and client alike, maybe a certain role won’t be for you, and that’s ok! We spend so much timing focusing on the little things, only to realise at the end of the day, they don’t really matter as much as we thought. Clichés may be corny, but they are often so true. A classic – when one door closes another opens, and take it from us, we see this everyday.
A candidate had his/her hopes set HIGH for a vacancy they applied for, they interviewed (twice or thrice), everything was looking good, and then all of a sudden a decline.. It’s important to remember, while this stings (you and us, because we also feel you would have been a perfect fit), sometimes there are other factors at play. Take the opportunity as a learning curve, we can always do a pro’s and con’s list; “maybe I did XYZ wrong”; “I was even going to relocate at my own cost, it would have cost them nothing, I was willing to take that risk, why weren’t they?” “Why won’t they pay me my worth?” Sometimes, as brutal as this may sound, don’t take things so personally, it’s often not even about you. There are so many factors that come into play, and every company, every industry is different, they all have different demands and requirements – a chain of command, protocols, rules, regulations (job grading being a big one too) and a strict process to follow. It is never as black and white as it looks like from the outside.
COVID-19 has taught us that challenges can be overcome, with a strong belief in yourself, a supportive family structure, a clear foundation of your values and principles that make you, YOU. The reason you want every single thing that you want, is because you think you will feel really good when you get there. But, if you don’t feel really good on your way to “there”, you can’t get there. You have to be satisfied with what-is while you’re reaching for more. Focus on this mindset, the day-to-day, and being better today, than you were yesterday, whatever that may mean to you, and the right opportunity will come at the right time.
Remember, it’s about the journey, that’s where the lessons and teachings about yourself, other people and life in general are.
